WHO raises coronavirus threat assessment to its highest level: ‘Wake up. Get ready. This virus may be on its way’ [2/28/20]
“We are on the highest level of alert or highest level of risk assessment in terms of spread and in terms of impact,” said Dr. Mike Ryan, executive director of WHO’s health emergencies program. The group isn’t trying to alarm or scare people, he said. “This is a reality check for every government on the planet: Wake up. Get ready. This virus may be on its way and you need to be ready. You have a duty to your citizens, you have a duty to the world to be ready.”

Second coronavirus case of unknown origin confirmed in California, indicating virus is spreading in the state [2/28/20]
“A 65-year-old resident of Santa Clara County, Calif., who has no known history of travel to countries hit hard by the outbreak, has tested positive for coronavirus, people familiar with the case said Friday.
There is no known connection between the new patient and anyone else diagnosed with the disease, known as covid-19. On Wednesday, health authorities revealed the nation’s first case of community transmission, a woman in Solano County, about 90 miles away.
That means the virus appears to be spreading among at least two separate populations, according to people who spoke on the condition of anonymity because the information has not been released publicly.”

Coronavirus: Infected Solano County patient wasn’t tested for 11 days [2/27/20]
“A Solano County woman now critically ill with coronavirus was hospitalized for 11 days before her infection was revealed to healthcare workers, raising the potential of broader community exposure to the dangerous respiratory disease.
Suffering from flu-like symptoms, the patient brought herself to the 50-bed NorthBay VacaValley Hospital in Vacaville on Feb. 15, according to the Washington Post.  She was transferred to UC Davis for advanced care four days later, on Feb. 19.”

Coronavirus live updates: Patient taken to San Mateo County; almost 100 Solano County health workers exposed [2/28/20]

“6:05 a.m. Patient who tested positive taken to San Mateo county: CDC officials transferred a person who tested positive for the virus to San Mateo County, health officials said, adding they did not plan to release any more information. It remained unclear where the person was transported from or how they got the virus.”

Sandy -2, Saturday, October 27, 2012

Saturday, October 27, 2012 Superstorm Sandy -2 I started out the day attending a meeting of local OEM (Office of Emergency Management) officials at our county Emergency Operations Center.  The general consensus was that the hurricane was going to seriously impact our area. The rest of the day was spent in preparation for hurricane Sandy to strike the area sometime Monday. I spent some time filling up a 55 gallon water drum and many 5 gallon water cans with a mixture of water and chlorine.  When you mix the proper amount of water and chlorine (from unscented chlorine bleach) your water will store longer without growing any unwanted critters in it. I also went out and filled the three five gallon fuel cans that I have with premium gasoline for my gas powered 4000 watt generator.  After I picked up the fuel, my son and I moved the generator out of the garage and rolled it around the back of the house and placed it on our back deck along with the full fuel cans.  I covered the gene
