Coronavirus Update for 2/29/2020

The coronavirus COVID-19 is affecting 64 countries and territories (4 more than yesterday) around the world and 1 international conveyance (the Diamond Princess cruise ship harbored in Yokohama, Japan). 


The coronavirus is spreading in the states of Washington, Oregon and California. 


"California reported its second case of community transmission of the coronavirus Friday, and Oregon and Washington announced others just hours later, providing fresh evidence that the deadly virus is circulating in the United States."

First U.S. death from coronavirus confirmed in Washington; Gov. Inslee declares state of emergency (2/29/20) 
 
"...the patient came into the facility with serious respiratory issues, and after following CDC guidelines, the patient was tested for COVID-19. The patient later died after testing positive for the virus.
The statement also said a second patient tested positive and is currently in isolation and receiving treatment.
Gov. Jay Inslee declared a state of emergency Saturday afternoon in response to the new cases of COVID-19, telling agencies to use all resources necessary to respond to the outbreak. He also authorized the use of the Washington National Guard if necessary."



"San Mateo County's (California) Health Officer Dr. Scott Morrow said the county's focus is changing from a "containment strategy" to one of "community mitigation," which means taking steps to lessen the impact."


" (CNN)About 124 health care workers -- including at least 36 nurses -- are under self-quarantine after possible exposure to the coronavirus patient admitted to UC Davis Medical Center last week, a nurse union said."
