Gov. Newsom expands Bay Area shelter-in-place to all of California

Just three days after seven Bay Area counties instituted a shelter-in-place mandate to slow the spread of the COVID-19 disease, Gov. Gavin Newsom announced a similar order over the entire state.
Newsom said the new statewide mandate would take effect starting Friday and mirror the Bay Area’s mandate that took effect on Tuesday.

“This is a moment in time, and it’s a challenging moment, and it may be many moments in the foreseeable future, but nonetheless we will process, we will work together through this moment of challenge and we will triumph over fear, anxiety and this disease,” Newsom said.

Under the shelter-in-place mandate, “non-essential” businesses across the state will be required to close, and residents will be limited to leaving their homes only for “essential” reasons, such as to obtain medications, shop for groceries and supplies, care for family members and exercise outdoors.

NY Gov Cuomo orders state 'on pause’ says non-essential workers must stay home

Gov. Andrew Cuomo dramatically ramped up New York’s coronavirus shutdown Friday as the crisis spirals out of control.

The governor said the state is being put “on pause” and said people should only leave homes for real urgent emergencies.

He ordered all non-essential workers to stay home as the number of cases shot up to more than 7,100 -- and 35 deaths.

“This is not life as usual,” Cuomo said. “Deal with it.”

In addition to issuing a “stay at home” order for Illinois, Gov. J.B. Pritzker announced another coronavirus-related death, a Cook County woman in her 70s. It’s the state’s fifth death associated with COVID-19.

Coronavirus can live in your body for up to 37 days, according to new study

The shortest length of time the virus lived in the respiratory tract of a survivor was eight days. And perhaps most shocking of all, in some cases, the virus persisted for as long as 37 days.

Coronavirus in N.Y.: ‘Deluge’ of Cases Begins Hitting Hospitals - The New York Times

At Elmhurst, a 545-bed public hospital that serves a large population of undocumented immigrants and low-income residents, coronavirus patients have begun to crowd out others. Protective gear is running low. Doctors are worried there will be a shortage of ventilators.

Outside the facility, at a tent housing a new mobile-testing site, a line snaked around the building on Friday, a sign of the demand on testing and how much worse the influx could become.

Sandy -2, Saturday, October 27, 2012

Saturday, October 27, 2012 Superstorm Sandy -2 I started out the day attending a meeting of local OEM (Office of Emergency Management) officials at our county Emergency Operations Center.  The general consensus was that the hurricane was going to seriously impact our area. The rest of the day was spent in preparation for hurricane Sandy to strike the area sometime Monday. I spent some time filling up a 55 gallon water drum and many 5 gallon water cans with a mixture of water and chlorine.  When you mix the proper amount of water and chlorine (from unscented chlorine bleach) your water will store longer without growing any unwanted critters in it. I also went out and filled the three five gallon fuel cans that I have with premium gasoline for my gas powered 4000 watt generator.  After I picked up the fuel, my son and I moved the generator out of the garage and rolled it around the back of the house and placed it on our back deck along with the full fuel cans.  I covered the gene
