Coronavirus COVID-19 Update for 3/25/2020

The coronavirus COVID-19 is affecting 198 countries and territories around the world and 1 international conveyance (the Diamond Princess cruise ship harbored in Yokohama, Japan).

As of March 26, 2020 at 01:13 GMT, there have been 66048 confirmed cases and 944 deaths due to coronavirus COVID-19 in the United States.

The Department of Homeland Security has been briefed that New York City’s morgues are nearing capacity, according to a department official and a second person familiar with the situation.

Officials were told that morgues in the city are expected to reach capacity next week, per the briefing. A third person familiar with the situation in New York said that some of the city’s hospital morgues hit capacity over the last seven days. And a FEMA spokesperson told POLITICO that New York has asked for emergency mortuary assistance. Hawaii and North Carolina have asked for mortuary help as well, and the disaster response agency is currently reviewing the requests, according to the spokesperson.

If the available morgue space in New York City fills up as the number of COVID-19 deaths increases, federal help will be available, a former senior administration official said, noting that the George W. Bush administration sent mortuary assistance in the wake of Hurricane Katrina and the September 11 attacks.

The Army is gauging interest from retired officers, non-commissioned officers and soldiers who would be willing to assist with the coronavirus pandemic response effort should their skills and expertise be required, according to an email sent out Wednesday afternoon and provided to Army Times.

“These extraordinary challenges require equally extraordinary solutions and that’s why we’re turning to you — trusted professionals capable of operating under constantly changing conditions," the email reads. "When the Nation called — you answered, and now, that call may come again.”

As Los Angeles County announced the death of a teenager from possible coronavirus complications on Tuesday, Gov. Gavin Newsom warned that California’s young people have been disproportionately testing positive for the virus.

My Comment:
California backtracks on the reasons for the teenagers death...

Half of the more than 2,000 Californians who’ve tested positive for COVID-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus, are between the ages of 18 and 49, Newsom said in his daily evening Facebook Live briefing.

About a fourth of the state’s confirmed coronavirus patients are between the age of 50 to 64, and another quarter were 65 or older.

“Young people can and will be impacted by this virus,” Newsom said, urging the state’s younger residents to stay home to avoid spreading the virus.

Sandy -2, Saturday, October 27, 2012

Saturday, October 27, 2012 Superstorm Sandy -2 I started out the day attending a meeting of local OEM (Office of Emergency Management) officials at our county Emergency Operations Center.  The general consensus was that the hurricane was going to seriously impact our area. The rest of the day was spent in preparation for hurricane Sandy to strike the area sometime Monday. I spent some time filling up a 55 gallon water drum and many 5 gallon water cans with a mixture of water and chlorine.  When you mix the proper amount of water and chlorine (from unscented chlorine bleach) your water will store longer without growing any unwanted critters in it. I also went out and filled the three five gallon fuel cans that I have with premium gasoline for my gas powered 4000 watt generator.  After I picked up the fuel, my son and I moved the generator out of the garage and rolled it around the back of the house and placed it on our back deck along with the full fuel cans.  I covered the gene
