The coronavirus COVID-19 is affecting 76 countries (nine more than yesterday) and territories around the world and 1 international conveyance (the Diamond Princess cruise ship harbored in Yokohama, Japan).
Five California Counties Have Declared Emergencies to Respond to the Coronavirus: Alameda, Orange, Santa Clara, Solano and Sonoma.
CDC: Coronavirus patient released in San Antonio later turned up positive
Dr. Matt McCarthy, a staff physician at New York-Presbyterian:
“I’m here to tell you, right now, at one of the busiest hospitals in the country, I don’t have [a rapid diagnostic test] at my finger tips.” “I still have to make my case, plead to test people. This is not good. We know that there are 88 cases in the United States. There are going to be hundreds by middle of week. There’s going to be thousands by next week. And this is a testing issue.”
NOTE: News activity in the USA is picking up dramatically. Don't rely on my coverage to be comprehensive.
"The patient, a woman in her late thirties, contracted the virus while traveling abroad in Iran, and is currently isolated in her home."
"...since the person had recently traveled to Italy, health officials do not believe this represents wider spread community transmission."
"Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) declared a public health emergency on Sunday after two residents in separate counties tested “presumptively positive” for the novel coronavirus...
The two individuals reside in Manatee and Hillsborough counties, respectively. The resident from Manatee County is an adult who has no history of traveling to the countries that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has advised against visiting in response to the recent outbreak, according to the Florida Department of Health. The second person does, however, have a history of traveling to Italy, where authorities have confirmed 1,694 cases of the virus."
California: 2 new cases in Santa Clara County, 1 ‘presumptive’ in San Mateo County
"Santa Clara County’s eighth case of COVID-19 is a man who had contact with an infected person in another county...The ninth patient had household contact with another previously confirmed case Santa Clara County...In San Mateo County, meanwhile, one adult is pending confirmatory testing by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) after initial tests for the virus came back positive. The source of exposure to the virus is unknown; the person did not travel recently or have contact with a confirmed case."
"Placer County reported its first case of coronavirus Monday, saying
that one of the health care workers who treated a patient at a Solano
County hospital has been diagnosed with the respiratory illness.
The worker was an employee at NorthBay VacaValley Hospital. The Solano County patient was not tested for coronavirus until after she arrived Feb. 19 for care at UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento."

"Santa Clara County hospitals are plagued by short staffing and long waits that undermine patient care, union employees said Tuesday."
CDC: Coronavirus patient released in San Antonio later turned up positive
"An evacuee from Wuhan, China, who had been in isolation at a San Antonio health facility was released over the weekend but then turned up positive for the coronavirus after having had contact with the public...At the time of discharge from the facility, the patient was asymptomatic and met all of CDC’s criteria for release — resolution of any symptoms and two consecutive sets of negative test results, collected more than 24 hours apart,” CDC stated. “Following the patient’s release, results of a subsequent sample were received, and determined to be weakly positive. Out of an abundance of caution, CDC decided to bring the individual back into isolation at a local medical facility.”
My Opinion: The current quarantine length is not enough to contain the virus. A 14 day quarantine will not capture all cases because the coronavirus incubation period has been found to be longer than 14 days in some people.
Additionally, people who are returning from countries that have the coronavirus are being checked upon returning to the USA. However, the same holds true with the virus incubation period. They may not present symptoms or be sick and yet still carry the virus.
